Historically, peshtemals have been used for many different purposes. Their use as towels was just one of hundreds of their functions. Artists and craftsmen of old Istanbul would wrap a peshtemal around their waist to use it as a work apron. An apprentice becoming an assistant master would be ceremonially clothed in a peshtemal by his master. The peshtemal meant that the person was “ahî”, implying he performed his work with mastery and good morals. In old Istanbul, each line of work would have a certain peshtemal. Wandering the streets of the old city you could easily guess the occupations of the people you see just by looking at their peshtemal. We were inspired by this old tradition in the creation of the Zeus Collection. These strikings patterns shock and excite the senses with bold colors and crimson tassels.
